Clarksdale Blues...Then (The Charlotte Observer)

The BLUES began as work songs, often about pain and worry, of black field hands in the Mississippi delta. Around 1900, this music became formalized with specific tempo, rhyming patterns and catch phrases. Blended with other types of pop music, it helped create or shape JAZZ, R&B, BLACK GOSPEL AND ROCK 'N' ROLL. Old-style blues has re-infused pop music several times, notably during the 1960s.
